Carbon monoxide from Smoking saved the man from anaemia.
Scientists have described the case of a disease for which Smoking is proved to be effective.
The 23-year-old daughter of a resident of Istanbul were identified with anemia. The illness of the girl was caused by a mutation in a gene, which encodes one of the components of the complex protein hemoglobin. Due to a mutation of the hemoglobin is vulnerable to O2, resulting in red blood cells – red blood cells – can not properly provide oxygen to cells.
The father of the girl was discovered this mutation, however, the anaemia he suffered. In his blood was discovered high concentrations of carbon monoxide. The man was a smoker. The mutation allowed the hemoglobin to stabilize the interaction with carbon monoxide.
