Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly types of tumors.
More than 85% of patients die during the year after diagnosis.
To diagnose pancreatic cancer at early stages is very difficult. Often, when patients put the terrible diagnosis, the tumor had already metastasized and difficult to treat.
According to world statistics, only 25% of patients will be alive in the first year after diagnosis, regardless of cancer stage. Not more than 6% will live 5 years, but if cancer to detect early and to carry out the operation, this will rise to 22%.
The sooner a tumor is, the higher the patient’s chances for a successful operation, doctors say. But surveys conducted in Europe show that most people can’t name a single symptom of pancreatic cancer.
The signs that should make you wary:
• Pain in the back area or belly – which may at first appear and disappear, but is enhanced in the supine position and after the meal
• Unexpected weight loss
• Jaundice. The most obvious symptom is yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes. In addition, the urine may become dark yellow or orange
Pancreatic cancer can also be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, intestinal discomfort, chills and fever, upset stomach. All of the above is not a sign of a tumor. But if this happens often it is better to see a doctor.
