Snoring is a harbinger of dangerous diseases.
Scientists from Harvard University, USA, suggested that snoring may Herald the onset of extremely life-threatening neurological disorders – Alzheimer’s disease.
On this basis, they believe that the therapy of somnological disorders can be an effective tool in the fight against this disease.
Harvard researchers came to the conclusion that sleep disorders including snoring associated with specific neurodegenerative process in people with increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
“Daytime sleepiness and sleep apnea are associated with impaired attention, memory and thinking in people who are genetically susceptible to the development of this condition,” said they, in particular.
In fact that snoring may indicate increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, researchers found in summing up the observations of a group of 1,750 people with an average age of 68. Experts assessed the mental abilities and sleep quality of the participants and found: loud snoring during the night is associated with the specific deterioration of the brain.
To date, no specific method of treatment of Alzheimer’s disease – this disease as progression leads to the complete destruction of the body and personality.
The authors of the new study believe that the treatment of sleep disorders can be used as a strategy to reduce the risk of a person has dementia.
