Researchers from the University of Texas at Austin (USA) have discovered that the popular food dye is able to accumulate in the pancreas and provoke the development of diabetes. The results of their work published in the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology, reports the Chronicle.Info with reference to health info.
The researchers examined tissue samples of the pancreas of patients with type II diabetes and found in them the presence of crystalline titanium dioxide particles. This substance is also known as food additive E171 is a common white dye that, for example, can be found in such foods as cheese, ice cream, caramel, chewing gum, milk. In addition, titanium dioxide is a component of toothpastes, cosmetics, certain medications and other products of daily use.
According to the results of analysis conducted by scientists, described in detail by the authors in the article, the concentration of the single crystal of titanium dioxide in the pancreas of all patients studied were high – hundreds of millions of units per gram of tissue.
Specialists do not hide their concern with such a high content in the body, hazardous to health substances.
With the consumption of particles of titanium dioxide researchers have linked the development of type II diabetes. According to them, it provokes the accumulation of inflammatory processes in organs and tissues.
“Our preliminary data raise the possibility that type II diabetes can be a chronic inflammatory disease of the pancreas, similar to asbestosis, which is caused by inhalation of crystalline asbestos” — appears in the journal the authors.
