Chubarov proposed mechanism for the return of the Crimea.
The Chairman of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Deputy Refat Chubarov said that Russia occupied Crimea will return to Ukraine much earlier than it would in the Kremlin.
He said this in an interview.
“It will be in our lifetime. We will return to the Crimea, otherwise it can not be”, – he said.
According to Chubarova, the history of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union demonstrated that the Kremlin can’t control large territories.
“I think a lot of people, who against their will are held in the Russian Federation, will also be very happy with such developments (the collapse of the Russian Federation – ed.). There is a powerful Tatarstan, Bashkiria is, there are Buryats, there are the Udmurts, is the Caucasus,” – said the head of the Mejlis.
He stressed that the disintegration of the Russian Federation should be under external control, as Russia has considerable nuclear Arsenal.
“Because we are talking about nuclear weapons, which is now in the hands of people who do not value neither his life nor the present, nor the future of his people. And, moreover, they do not care about the existence and future of their neighbors,” – said Chubarov.
The head of the Majlis said that Crimea will be returned through diplomatic channels.
“I see the return of the Crimea in the result of military and diplomatic actions. But I also understand that participation in the future of Crimea will adopt a number of powerful players,” he said, adding that meant the United States, European Union, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Romania and Bulgaria.
“And why not? Is the black country… They will all have different weights. Don’t have to be like that. Possible large list of countries or regional organizations created by a different formula. The same EU or, say, NATO. And each of these players will announce their approaches, principles. And some will give motivation for why Crimea should belong to this or that country”, – said Chubarov.
As he says, despite the fact that the position of Ukraine in the issue of ownership of the Crimea the most durable, sometimes when you compromise the big players ignored the rules of international law, for example, at the Yalta conference in 1945.
“And in this situation, to those motives that will be used by Ukraine regarding the inviolability of borders, territorial integrity, you can add a heavy duty argument: the right of indigenous people to self-determination […] Only at the disposal of the Ukraine this is the most powerful lever – the right of indigenous people to self-determination. Neither does anybody else. And so we have to be ready to such negotiations”, – said Chairman of the Majlis.
He also drew attention to the importance of adopting laws that would define the status of the Crimean Tatar people in Ukraine.
