The excavations took place in the Rivne region.
In town Klevan, Rivne region during the restoration of the Annunciation Catholic Church under the altar was found an ancient tomb.
The researchers believe that they came upon the tomb of Prince George Czartoryski, who founded this city. This version is confirmed by a written record of the genus from the 17th century and the rich decoration of the coffins. Scientists discovered in the tomb dug up the grave and bones. It is noted that the Church was over 100 years abandoned
“There are still remnants of the coffin. Body rot and bones interspersed with the boards are in the ground. The outlines of the tomb,” said archaeologist Oleg Simile.
“Usually the Central crypt was used for burial of the founders of the Church or city. In our case it is the burial vault of the princes Czartoryski, who founded this Church,” said historian Alexey Voytyuk.
Whether the remains belong to a princely family, will determine the expertise. If so, the Church planned to turn it into a tourist monument.
Where to rebury the princely family – the researchers will ask the descendants of Czartoryski. Now they live in Poland.
