Scientists saw the birth of a giant “super-Earth”

Ученые увидели рождение гигантской «супер-Земли»Close the distance between the holes, has led many scholars to doubt that within them can be born on the planet.

Scientists announced that the unusual double gaps in the dust disks of young stars, which were discovered by astronomers recently, indicated the formation of near them “twins” of the Earth.

The researchers ‘ findings were published in the Astrophysical Journal.

How formed large “cousin” of the Earth, is still a mystery for scientists, as long as astronomers failed to find any newborn star system, where would any such planets. This has led many planetary scientists to believe that super-Earth require some exotic formation conditions, which largely does not coincide with the fact that these exoplanets are often the closest to us stars.

Now, researchers have discovered an unexpected explanation for why scientists could not find “hospital” such planets, and revealed one of the last mysteries of space, by studying the data that was collected microwave Chilean ALMA telescope during the observations of some newborn stars.

As the researchers note, some of these luminaries has a rather strange protoplanetary disk, within which there are numerous very narrow and closely spaced discontinuities, the existence of which astronomers usually associated with the formation of planets.

Close the distance between the holes, has led many scholars to doubt that within them can be born on the planet. The gravitational interaction between the embryos will make a similar ring of the void is very unstable, and eventually they will quickly collapse before the end of the formation of planets, and before they can see astronomers.

Now, researchers have found an explanation for this, drawing attention to the fact that the gas and dust in the protoplanetary disk move slightly differently if inside is born relatively small and dense planet. Interaction of gas and dust with the embryo of the planet will create two gaps in the disk, one of which will be almost immediately in front of the planet, and the second for her.

Then these holes, due to different rates of movement of large and small particles of dust, will split another two rings, separated by narrow stripes of dust and gas. According to calculations of scientists, such structures remain stable over many thousands of orbits around the newborn sun, allowing you to find them using telescopes.

Traces of such structures can be seen in the images of the protoplanetary disk HL the stars in the constellation Taurus and TW of the constellation Hydra, obtained with ALMA.
