In Lviv archaeologists looking for the lost temples of the middle ages

It’s been two weeks continuing excavations in the ancient town of Lviv region – Belz. The first mention of it dates back to 1030 year in the “tale of bygone years”. The aim of archaeologists to find traces of the lost temples of the medieval settlement.

In ancient Bells had a dozen religious buildings. However, where exactly they stood – still unknown. One of the most valuable monuments – the monastery of St. Clement.

The first archaeological finds is pottery and human remains. They indicate that in the middle ages there was bubbling life.

Expedition leader Ostap Lazurca looking for another Church. The Church of the Holy Saviour according to legend was the place where were buried Prince the tip. However, it is still not found. But it came across a household pits ages 11-13.

There are remnants of animal bones in fairly large numbers and hence there are fragments of the cuffs, Vinnitsa 11th century, and behind me there is a hole, which dates from the 13th century, – said the head of the archaeological expedition Belsky Ostap Lazurca.
