Goats are known for their acrobatic skills and ability to balance on steep cliffs. However, their amazing ability to not end – in the Kingdom of Morocco you can see even more unusual sight: dozens of horned animals are conveniently arranged on the trees, like a flock of birds.
They climb to the highest branches, like a skilled tightrope walkers, which are engaged in regular eating of green leaves and fruit.
Not wish to enjoy the Moroccan landscapes from height of bird’s flight, and an acute shortage of food is forcing goat to conquer these peaks, namely the thorny argan tree with thorny branches and gnarled trunk. This endemic species grows exclusively in the South-West of Morocco and a small area in the Western part of Algeria. It is noteworthy that argan oil is one of the most expensive vegetable fats in the world, highly prized in cooking and cosmetology. The cost of one liter of the so-called Gold of Morocco is about $ 100.
As you know, the southern part of Morocco is influenced by the arid climate, leaving some animals that live in these parts, are deprived of the opportunity to eat natural food without resorting to his resourcefulness. For this reason, the local goats were forced to adapt to difficult environmental conditions. With the virtuosity of the acrobats numerous herds of horned gourmets climb to the tops of trees with the aim to eat a favorite food – similar to a plum a fleshy fruit.
The main task of the shepherds in the countryside – to distill their wards from one tree to another, carefully making sure the herd for a long time not to stay in one place. The fact that a group of 8-10 goats can with incredible speed to completely clear the argan tree from the fruit. Horny tight-rope walkers with the joy of going to another “pasture”, deftly jumping on thin branches and getting the meal. Argan trees typically reach a height of 8-10 meters. But these figures are absolutely not afraid of a clever African animals, without a drop of fear rise 10 meters above the ground in search of bitter treats.
Climb trees goats are found only in the southwestern part of the Kingdom of Morocco, between Essaouira and Agadir. You can see them right from the car because the highway ornate line lies along the coastline of Moroccan Atlantic, where grazing animals are good climbers.
