Spaceborne Computer will be the most powerful computer that has ever worked in space.
The Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX will deliver to the ISS a supercomputer built by Hewlett Packard.
According to preliminary calculations, Spaceborne Computer will be the most powerful computer that has ever worked in space.
According to Mark Fernandez, the engineer of HP, which is headed by a new experiment, a supercomputer is about 100 times more powerful than the average desktop computer. But the main thing – it is able to function in space.
“We have created a unique case with water cooling for equipment and developed special software for the solution of environmental constraints, to meet the requirements for reliable computing in space,” explained mark Fernandez.
This computer is designed for computing and communications requirements of missions to Mars. It belongs to the class HP Apollo 40, is a class of high performance computing under the Linux operating system. Spaceborne Computer will be able to identify adverse working environment and respond to the energy reduction or temporary disconnection.
Reporters noted that the computer will be connected and commissioned 4 September. Mark Fernandes with colleagues will spend a few hours in a field test of computer to ensure that it is fully functional.
