Lately Russia is very often included in various tops, and this is not always describes it best. So, today she was among the first 10 countries by number of ongoing DDoS attacks, according to statistics prepared by the Kaspersky Lab.
Published data relevant to the second quarter of this year, as the third ended, and it says that during this period increased record duration of DDoS-attacks – 277 hours, which is 131% higher than in the first quarter of 2017. However, in the second quarter 2016 duration was 291 hours, so it’s not so bad. Russia entered the top ten countries by highest number of DDoS attacks, where with it is, the United States, South Korea, China and Britain.
Most often DDoS-attacks were carried out on the sites of reputable French Newspapers Le Monde and Figaro, servers, Skype and the Qatari news Agency Al Jazeera. According to analysts at Kaspersky Lab, DDoS attacks are increasingly becoming a tool for extortion: the potential victim is invited in advance to pay off the hackers and the amount of the redemption is usually from 5 to 200 bitcoins, which recently exceeded the mark of $4000. In case of failure of “cooperation” hackers start to perform threats.
