Scientists have studied the orbital elements of the eight TRANS-Neptunian objects.
Astronomers from Canada, the UK, Taiwan, Slovakia, USA and France presented the results of the search for Planet X using directory OSSOS (Outer Solar System Origins Survey). Preprint of the study is available on the website arXiv.org.
Scientists have studied the orbital elements of the eight TRANS-Neptunian objects are celestial bodies beyond the orbit farthest from the Sun an officially recognized planet. Their movement planet X in the case of its existence would influence the objects would be grouped in a certain way (clustered) according to their moods.
Among the eight objects, four are considered by scientists for the first time. It turned out that the parameters of a single object, 2015 GT50, do not fit the clustering, which forced the authors to question the existence of Planet X.
On the other hand, according to experts, the work of scientists in General does not allow to make unambiguous conclusions about the existence of a potential ninth planet.
On the possible discovery beyond the orbit of Pluto’s largest celestial body, scientists said in mid-January 2016. A hypothetical object revolves around the Sun in an elongated path (in inclined relative to Earth’s orbit plane) with a period of 15 thousand years, and physico-chemical properties reminiscent of Neptune.
