Relations with Moscow, Russia’s annexation of Crimea and war in Donbass was not discussed.
The victory in the TV debate between key candidates for the post of Chancellor, which took place on Sunday evening, September 3, was won by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
This is evidenced by the results of the survey, which was conducted by the Institute for social research Infratest dimap on order of the TV channel ARD.
According to the study, acting head of the government and the CDU/CSU scored 55% of respondents ‘ votes. Its key competitor in the elections to the Bundestag, the candidate of the social Democrats Martin Schulz is 35%.
According to the participants of the survey, Infratest dimap, Merkel kept confident his opponent during the discussion a number of themes. Thus, 44% gave preference to the German Chancellor in migration policy and refugees, while Schultz was supported by 39% of respondents.
The statements of Merkel’s foreign policy agenda Berlin more convincing found 61% of voters. The preference to her rival gave 30% of study participants.
With regard to the discussion of the situation on the labour market, the audience also handed a victory to Chancellor (45% vs. 40%).
In the framework of the debates, which lasted just over one and a half hours, the politicians were able to discuss a number of key topics that are most interesting for German society. It was about refugee and migration policy, and the Chancellor defended the decisions made in 2015, and Schultz accused Merkel that she is not sufficiently engaged in addressing the problems of the European countries.
In addition, it was about the place and role of Islam in Germany, about the relations with Turkey and Ankara’s prospects for membership in EU and US politics and Donald trump.
