National Day of remembrance of the victims of Holodomor will be held throughout Ukraine and in 32 countries.
Today Ukraine honors memory of victims of Holodomor – million Ukrainians destroyed by the totalitarian Communist regime.
The day of memory of victims of Holodomor is celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of November on the basis of presidential decrees in 1998 and 2007. In the twentieth century the Ukrainians have experienced three of the Holodomor: 1921-1923, 1932-1933, and the famine of 1946-1947.
The most ambitious was the Holodomor of 1932-1933 – genocide of the Ukrainian people by the totalitarian Communist regime of the USSR.
The famine was preceded by the forced collectivization of agriculture, dispossession of peasants, grain procurement campaign of mass terror in the village. The terror by famine that lasted in Ukraine for 22 months – it is a conscious and deliberate policy of the Stalin government, strategy and tactics which had been performed since 1928. This punitive action was intended to subdue the Ukrainian peasantry, the destruction of independent farms, the socio – economic foundations of the Ukrainian nation.
Ukrainian peasants became the victims of the Stalinist regime after total repression of the Ukrainian intelligentsia and clergy. In the peak months of famine every minute in Ukraine died 24 people.
For decades, famine in the Soviet Ukraine was ignored. Research on this tragedy began in the late 80-ies of the last century. Now in Ukraine the Holodomor of 1932-1933 is regarded as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people committed by the Soviet government by organizing an artificial famine, which led to millions of casualties in rural areas on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR. According to the latest polls, 77% of Ukrainians consider the tragedy genocide.
In November 2006, the Verkhovna Rada recognized the Holodomor 1932-1933 genocide against the Ukrainian people. And on 7 December 2016 Rada called on other States to recognize the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. Now did 24 countries.
Each year, the Ukrainian Institute of national memory offers a special theme that highlights a particular aspect of the tragedy of Holodomor of 1932-1933 this year’s theme is “famine – revenge for freedom, revenge for the revolution.”
National Day of remembrance of the victims of the Holodomor will be held throughout Ukraine and in 32 countries.
This day there was a memorial service at the National Museum “memorial to victims of Holodomor” in Kyiv, and throughout Ukraine – thematic scientific, informational and cultural events, exhibitions, presentations, documents, photos and videos.
However, on the territory of Ukraine will be lowered national flag and is limited to events entertainment.
At 16.00 in every home and establishment of Ukrainians will light candles of memory and will join the national moment of silence.
As reported Корреспондент.net according to the latest data, as a result of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 died of 3.94 million Ukrainians. This was reported by the Institute of demography and social research. M. ptukha of the national Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
We will remind, Russia believes that the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-33 is ahistorical and politicized.
