A reporter from Texas gave advice to readers of his Twitter, what not to do meeting “raft” of ants.
A reporter from Texas Mike Hixenbaugh took video of fire ants that had strayed off in a sort of floating colony, trying to swim away from the area flooded hit state by hurricane “Harvey”.
Recorded, Hixenbaugh posted August 27, in his Twitter with the caption “Hint: don’t touch a floating colony of fire ants. They will spoil you all day.” The message was accompanied by the hashtag #Harvey, retweeted more than 25 thousand times.
The formation of such floating colonies distributed among the fire ants. The number of insects in each such “island” can reach one hundred thousand, and swimming sometimes lasts up to a week.
Ants are submerged in this swimming in the water, do not die, as their shells are covered with grease and tiny hairs, among which the air remains. In addition, insects are constantly changing places.
