Sending telegrams is losing its popularity, and it is already unprofitable.
The largest Ukrainian fixed operator Ukrtelecom has decided since March 1, 2018, to terminate the provision of services of Telegraph communication for General use for all categories of consumers.
This is stated in the company’s announcement in the newspaper Uryadovy courier on Thursday 23 November.
“Will be discontinued receipt, processing and transmission for the delivery of telegrams of all kinds and categories,” – said in the message.
As explained by Ukrtelecom, the decision was made in connection with a significant reduction in the number of sent telegrams, which is associated with the development of electronic communication channels and the proliferation of use of digital signatures.
Another reason this service is outdated equipment and lack of support from the manufacturers, said the operator.
The press service of the Ukrtelecom added that the sending of telegrams is rapidly losing its popularity and that it is unprofitable for the company. In particular, if in 2015 was sent to approximately 350 thousand telegrams, then a year later 100 thousand, and now only about 10 million in the quarter.
“Accordingly, income from services decrease every year twice and they are several times smaller than the cost of the contents of the Telegraph. Telegraph services have been unprofitable for Ukrtelecom – tens of millions of hryvnia in the year”, – said the press service.
The company also said that because the vast majority of the telegrams sent during working days, from December 2017, for three months changes schedule their receiving and delivery: Monday-Saturday, 8:00 to 19:00, whereas on Sunday and public holidays will be output.
“I hope for your understanding of those few service users and are confident that if necessary they would choose for themselves a different look and modern channel of communication, for example, Ukrposhta”, – noted in Ukrtelecom.
