Trump has described Russia as one of the threats at NATO’s borders.
The US President Donald trump has called the Russian Federation one of the threats at the borders of NATO and urged the Alliance members to meet their funding commitments to collective defence.
About this trump said during the meeting of heads of NATO member States in Brussels.
“NATO in the future should focus on such important points as terrorism and immigration. You also need to keep in mind such a threat as Russia on our southern and Eastern borders. Given all that, I very explicitly said Stoltenberg (NATO Secretary General – ed.) that for the benefit of all members of the Alliance should finally invest a fair share in the defense and to fulfill its obligations. But 23 out of 28 NATO members still do not pay what they are required to pay for their defence. It’s not fair to the people and taxpayers of the United States. And many of these countries need defence in recent years and, again, in recent years, do not pay,” said trump at the opening of the Memorial dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attack of September 11.
Over the past 10 years, according to him, the US has invested more in defense than all other countries combined.
“If all NATO members were spending 2% of their GDP, last year on our shared security, we would have collected more than 119 billion dollars,” he said.
