During testing of a new missile defense system intercepted a ballistic missile fired from the Pacific Islands.
The U.S. military successfully tested a may 30 new missile defense system, designed for intercepting Intercontinental ballistic missiles, according to the missile defense Agency of the United States.
According to the Ministry, was tested the so-called ground-based missile defense system to cruising flight. It was located in California and struck down a missile target, launched from the region of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific ocean.
It is specified that the target was struck as a result of “direct confrontation”.
“According to preliminary data, the test has achieved the initial objectives, officials who are engaged in the program will continue to evaluate the system performance based on telemetry and other data obtained during the tests,” − said the Agency.
