The EU also urged the Ukrainian authorities to intensify efforts to increase the transparency of cargo.
The European Union said that the blockade of the railway in the Donbas could lead to an energy crisis in Ukraine, which affected citizens on both sides of the contact line.
According to the press Secretary of the EU, the EU calls for an immediate end to the blockade.
“The blockade of the railway communication between areas under government control and those that are currently outside of its control, contrary to much needed integrated approach to the Ukrainian citizens residing in uncontrolled territory. Those who are responsible for the blockade must cease their actions, and the government must solve this problem on a priority basis”, – said in comments.
In addition, the EU urged the Ukrainian authorities to intensify efforts to increase the transparency of cargo, which move through the line of contact in order to solve the problem of smuggling.
On 25 January, the veterans of the ATO blocked Railways Lugansk-Lysychansk-Popasna in the area of Mining-gold to stop trading with illegal armed groups. The participants of the blockade, said that will not let the metal, coal, wood, and industrial consignment of alcohol and cigarettes.
Later, the activists agreed to allow the wagons with coal, provided greater control over what is carried in the occupied territory.
In turn, 26 January the Prosecutor opened criminal proceedings on the fact of blocking a road in the Luhansk region on the boundary line for part 1 of article 279 of the Criminal code of Ukraine (blocking of transport communications).
According to the Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman, the continued blockade of the railway communication with the occupied territories of Donbass will lead to a crisis in Ukrainian metallurgy and energy, as well as to the reduction of foreign exchange earnings and slowing economic growth.
