In may of this year, we saw a very cheerful and atmospheric trailer for Argentine horror film with a poetic title “What the water left behind.” Now the picture got the official poster inviting us on a journey through the mysterious and totally real place in the province of Buenos Aires.
The village of Villa Epecuen was one of the most important tourist centers of Argentina. Thousands of people have moved here, attracted by the healing properties of the local thermal springs. 10 November 1985 the enormous mass of water burst the dam, and the town disappeared. Thirty years later the waters of lake Epecuen receded, revealing a dark and ugly ruin. Citizens began to come back.
A group of young guys goes to the abandoned village to remove about it a documentary. Ignoring warnings, they explore the ruins, but soon realize that they are not so alone in this godforsaken place…
During the filming the Director’s chair was shared by the brothers Luciano and Nicolas Onetti, who have the experience of a stylish old-school Giallo “Francesca”. In the script they were helped by rookie Carlos Goitia. Caste is especially famous persons: Victoria Maurette (“Rebellious spirit”), Mirta Busnelli (“Women killers”), Victorio D’alessandro (“Almost angels”) and Chucho Fernandez (“Hypersomnia”). In a small cameo starred Pablo Guisa Koestinger (“ABCs of death”), he is also one of the producers of the film.
Trailer for “the waters left behind” was first presented in Cannes, and now the painting itself is preparing to participate in the competition program film Festival in Sitges in October of this year.
Horror, it seems, very personal, pretty powerful, so let’s wish the film welcome and good luck in finding a renter.
