Ukraine is not just a figure no one needs the Eurovision song contest, but also the birthplace of several pleasant black metal bands. In April, we introduced you to the Kharkiv Ulvegr that – that’s great! – posted album, “Titahion: Kaos Manifest” in free access. Today we will hear the other team, Nokturnal Mortum, the good guys released a stream of their seventh Studio album “Stina” [Verity].
The release of the album took place on may 8, 2017, and at once made the best-sellers of the service Bandcamp. “Stina” is a dozen tracks, including a cover of the song “LRA” group “Down to”. Mixing and mastering the album was a British musician and producer Greg Chandler (Pantheist, Esoteric) in Priory Recording Studios. The artwork was made by cult Swedish artist Christian Valine (Bathory, Dark Funeral, Dark Tranquillity, Tiamat). Design release was done by Sir Gorgoroth, collaborating with the group since 1995.
What they say about the album by Nokturnal Mortum:
To create a “Stine” it took a lot of time and effort, but the final result is a masterpiece of metal music worthy of all the hopes, UPS, downs and difficult struggle that preceded it. In the band’s catalogue, not even two identical albums, and “Stina” is no exception to this rule. Darker and more introspective than his illustrious predecessor 2009, this album leads the listener into the realms of ancient dosycycline cults, where people were able to get the simple and harsh truth of being alone and in a direct dialogue with nature and forces that existed outside of the human world. At the same time the basis for the music of Nokturnal Mortum remains the same: it is a noble Epic Heathen Metal art, in which the singing of the guitars and the drums are supported by majestic arrangements of keyboards and folk instruments. Of these elements is born a unique individual style that carries deep and lasting feelings.
Another feature Nokturnal Mortum is that each song is a stand-alone monument, a reflection of the lack of secondary rules and flow of the songs on the band’s releases at a time when most albums around sound like the same played many times in the song.
