Ukrainians are not willing to abandon ideological and cultural influence of Russia.
The process of cleansing the country from the symbols of the Soviet past support of less than half of Ukrainians, and the ban on Russian cultural product – only a third.
It follows from the results of a poll conducted by KIIS in February of this year, writes in his article for ZN.UA Vladimir Kulik.
He cites that the thesis “we Need to clear Ukraine of symbols of the Soviet past” is supported by only 42% of respondents (option “Rather agree” was chosen by 20.5% of respondents, option “strongly agree” and 22%). Against the thesis expressed by 43% of respondents. 13.6% of respondents were undecided.
At the same time, a ban in Ukraine, Russian cultural product supported by only 35% of respondents (option “Rather agree” was chosen by only 18.9% of respondents, option “strongly agree” and 16.5%).
“As you can see, understanding the necessity to defend against military aggression of Russia, the Ukrainians, however, are not very willing to abandon ideological and cultural influences of the former metropolis,” –said Kulik.
The author notes that the introduction of the Ukrainian language in different public spheres spoke much more of respondents than for the cleansing of Ukraine from the symbols of the Soviet alien (66.7% of respondents).
“This means that the population does not share the priorities of the post-Maidan government, which is firmly engaged in de-communization, but often avoided real Ukrainization, limited to declarative support of the state language”, – stated in the material.
A sociological survey, dedicated to the support of reforms by the population of Ukraine, conducted by Kiev international Institute of sociology at the expense of the University. John.Of Washington and Yale University (USA). The field phase lasted from 10 to 20 February 2017
The survey polled 2,400 respondents in 110 settlements in all regions of Ukraine except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. In the Donetsk and Lugansk regions the surveys were conducted only in the territories controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. The statistical error does not exceed 3.3 percent.
