According to the Vice-speaker, Parliament “should sound like the Ukrainian language”.
First Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko has demanded from the Deputy of “Opposition bloc” Oleksandr Vilkul, who spoke English, to go to the Ukrainian.
“I ask You to respect the Ukrainian language and to speak in Ukrainian. I appeal to you as Chairman. Please continue his speech in Ukrainian, and the hall asks you,” – said Gerashchenko.
However Vilkul, ignoring her words he continued to speak Russian.
After his speech, Gerashchenko turned again to Vilkul.
“I beg you not to provoke hall (…) We, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, and not the Russian Federation. Russian language can absolutely still be in Ukraine, it is possible to speak at home, in the lobby, in the restaurants, with the voters, please. But in the Ukrainian Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, from the podium to sound of the Ukrainian language. Moreover, they all speak good”, – said Gerashchenko.
We will remind, at session of Parliament March 14, Oleksandr Vilkul from the podium, started his speech in English, after which he was approached by one of my colleagues in Parliament and demanded to speak Ukrainian.
The deputies verbal altercation ensued. Meanwhile, Vice-speaker Irina Gerashchenko urged to remain calm, and the administration – to continue in Ukrainian. However, he still made it in English.
