In the Italian town-the municipality of Castel San Lorenzo in late April unveiled a monument dedicated to the lovers Italian, Luigi and the Ukrainian Mokrin, which became the heroes of the program “Wait for me”.

The amazing story of this love has become known throughout the country thanks to the program “Wait for me”. Luigi and Mokrin was found during the war, in 1943, in the Austrian pow camp. Two years they spent together, and then parted for long 60 years.

In 2004 Luigi by contacting the program “Wait for me” has found its Mokrin. Since then they met every year: Mokrin was visited by Luigi in Italy, and he visited her in Ukraine.

“When we first talked with Luigi at the opening of the monument “Eternal love” in Kiev, was thought – correctly would be if a similar monument stood on his homeland. Neither Luigi nor Mokriny no longer with us, but their history does not come to an end. And it is gratifying that we made such a good case for this man and for his city,” – says the chief editor of the TV channel “inter” Anton Nikitin.

Luigi Peduto before the appearance of the monument in its homeland did not live – he died in 2013. Mokrin Ursuk died in 2015.

“Emotions overflow. Honestly, I did not expect such a reaction of people. No idea how our initiative will include the residents of this small town, as it is important for them that the same feelings? But what he saw exceeded all my expectations. The entire city took to the streets. We observed a conscious, sincere attitude of people. They were photographed at the monument, who knew Luigi remembered it… It’s very touching. I think all together we did a good job,” he shared after the opening ceremony of the monument to Anna Bezlyudna, head of Inter Media Group.
