Marcia suspect in the murder of Italian journalist
17 July, Italy hosted the first interrogation of the Ukrainian military Marcia Vitali, who is suspected in murder of Italian photojournalist Andrea Rochelle in may 2014 near Slavyansk.
According to BBC Ukraine, the interrogation lasted 6 hours and was very detailed.
It is also reported that the defendants gave their explanations and received from Ukraine the documents.
Defender Marcia said that at the time of death Rokelle his client was not the commander, and a soldier of the national guard, therefore, could not give orders. In addition, Raffaele della Valle (attorney Marcia – ed.) noted that his battalion had at its disposal the mortars, and from the position where the Markiv, he couldn’t even see the foot of the mountain, where they killed journalists.
In this regard, the defence particularly insisted on leaving the scene, on the mountain Karachun near Slavyansk.
“This is the only way to understand the complexity of the case. We are not talking about blue stadium with a diameter of 100 meters, and mount on a circumference of a few kilometers, distances there is considerable. I also asked to be heard the testimonies of comrades Marcia that were near him and can tell us about the circumstances,” said the lawyer.
At the same time, according to the prosecution Markiv at the time was the commander and he and others “know what we are talking about journalists and that they and aiming”.
It is noted that in the case markeva there are witnesses, but their names have not been disclosed. During August, the defense intends to conduct its own investigation.
In the next 10 days, the judge must make a decision: to authorize departure to a scene, or to declare the investigation closed phase and start the actual process.
