In response to criticism of the annexation of the Peninsula, the Crimean government has advised MEPs to read international documents.
The reunification of the Crimea with Russia was held in strict accordance with international standards and MEPs, unwilling to accept this fact, it is worthwhile to read international documents, said the head of the Crimean government Committee on inter-ethnic relations Zaur Smirnov.
Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the situation in the black sea region criticized Russia. It was noted that the annexation of Crimea to Russia is illegal, and has made profound changes “in the strategic situation” in the Black sea basin and the surrounding region. The document expressed full support for the European Parliament’s sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“MEPs need to learn the materiel. That is, once again attentively to re-read the international documents which define the right of Nations and peoples to self-determination. Crimeans took advantage of this right in a referendum, having the powers enshrined in the then Constitution of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea”, — told RIA Novosti Smirnov.
In his opinion, the MEPs can’t help but notice the obvious things, of course, if their decisions and declarations are dictated by political motives.
“We hope that sooner or later the European Parliament will cease his statements to flout international principles and rights of entire peoples”, — said the Agency interlocutor.
