Half of Ukrainians would not support a ban Russian TV channels − survey

More than 50% of people also believe by mistake the ban of certain artists and of Russian films in Ukraine.

According to the Kiev international Institute of sociology, nearly half of Ukrainians believe that the ban Russian TV channels in Ukraine is a mistake and leads to restriction of citizens ‘ rights. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by KIIS in March 2019.

It is noted that respondents were asked to answer several policy issues regulation of information sphere of the state. These same issues were presented in the survey in February and September 2018.

Sociologists pointed out that more than half of respondents in March (53,5%) believe that the ban Russian TV channels in Ukraine is a mistake and leads to restriction of citizens ‘ rights.

The percentage of respondents who choose this answer, is gradually increasing: in February 2018, was 43.7 per cent in September to 49.6 per cent.

“Approximately one-third (31.7 per cent) held the opposite opinion and believes that the ban Russian TV channels in Ukraine is a necessary step to protect the state. The percentage of those choosing this option decreased from 36.6% in February 2018,” − said in the CMIS.

At the same time, 14.7 percent of respondents were undecided or refused to answer this question.

Also, only 27.7% of study participants in the March expressed the opinion that the prohibition of individual artists and of Russian films in Ukraine is a necessary step to protect the state, while 59.6% of respondents called this statement a mistake that limits the rights of citizens.

Moreover, the proportion of those who consider the ban a necessary step, virtually unchanged for the year (in February 2018, was 29.2 per cent) and the share of those who consider the ban a mistake, grew from 53% in February 2018.

Were undecided or refused to answer this question, 12.6% of respondents.

In addition, 28.8% of Ukrainians agree that the ban on Russian social networks is a necessary step to protect the state (in February 2018, was 30.2 per cent).

The opposite view is that the ban on Russian social networks is a mistake that only leads to restriction of the rights of citizens, adhere to about 53.2% of respondents (and percent increase from 45.8% in February 2018).

17.9 percent were undecided or refused to answer this question.

On the question of whether the introduction of quotas for Ukrainian language on TV and radio 32.2% of participants believe such a step expedient, 42.2% are not.

While 25.6% of respondents were undecided or refused to answer this question.
