Object “Beech forest” was expanded to 12 countries in Europe.
On Friday, July 7, in the UNESCO list was included, new forest plantations of Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the United Nations.
As part of the expansion of the object “primeval beech forests of the Carpathians and ancient beech forests of Germany” appeared Ukrainian Gorgany forest (conservation zone – 753,48 ha), Roztocze (384,81 ha) Satanovskaya Cottage (212,01 ha), Synevyr – Devika (1588,46 ha), Synevyr – Kvasovets (561,62 ha), Synevyr – Strymba (260,65 ha), Synevyr – Olsany (454,31 ha), Enchanted land – Irshava (93,97 ha) and the Enchanted land – Big Dollars (1164,16 ha).
Now the project is called “primeval beech forests of the Carpathians and other regions of Europe” and covers three countries (Ukraine, Slovakia and Germany), and twelve – added Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, Italy, Romania, Slovenia.
Until 2017 in a transboundary object “Beech forest” was part of the forests of Chornohora, Uholka – shyrokyi Luh, Svydovets, Maramorosh, Kusi – Trybushany, Stuzhytsia – Uzhok.
As noted in UNESCO, from the end of the last Glacial period, European beech forests have successfully spread over several millennia from a number of isolated areas in the Alps, the Carpathians, the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. This process continues to this day. The successful distribution of beech forests reflects their flexibility and adaptability to different geographical, climatic and other natural conditions.
The inclusion of objects in the world heritage List will continue until July 9, inclusive.
