Businessman released without additional conditions.
The Vienna regional court for criminal matters rejected the prosecution’s request to detain Ukrainian businessman Dmitry Firtash in the case of his extradition to the USA on request of the American authorities.
The Correspondent reports about it, citing a source knowledgeable with the process.
“Firtash released without conditions,” – said the source.
As reported, the day before the court released businessman under the same bail of 125 million euros and the obligation to stay in Austria for the extradition case in Spain, however, he was immediately arrested on the extradition case in the United States.
“The court rejected the Prosecutor’s office of Vienna in the arrest Firtash (on the “Spanish case” – ed.) because there is no risk of absenteeism Firtash at the request of the court. The court ordered Firtash to regularly attend the court after a certain period of time,” said defenders of the businessman on February 23.
The businessman was forbidden to leave the territory of Austria. He also surrendered to the court his passport.
Later, they said that the rejection by the court of the request of Spain for the detention, the representative of Prosecutor’s office of Vienna immediately after the adoption of such judgment demanded the arrest of the businessman according to the existing extradition case in the United States.
