“According to the order of the city Chairman of Lviv, June 1, the city announced a day of mourning. Will be posted the national flag of Ukraine with mourning ribbons and flags flew half-mast on all public buildings. Recall: after the death of 14 December 2000, Archbishop Miroslav John Lobachevskogo, the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, elected on 25 January 2001, Bishop Lubomyr Husar as the new head.
On 26 January 2001 in the Cathedral St. Yura in Lvov took place the enthronement of the new Archbishop, immediately after which the papal Nuncio was informed that John Paul II, as he reported by telegram, not only confirms this choice of the Synod, but also provides the new Supreme Archbishop of the title of cardinal.
In 2002, the Supreme Archbishop Lubomyr consecrated the cornerstone of his Patriarchal Cathedral in Kiev.
10 Feb 2011 Pope Benedict XVI accepted the resignation of Patriarch Lubomyr Husar from the post of the Supreme Archbishop of the UGCC. A petition filed Husar, when he was 75 years old.
