Official for dealing with natural disasters in the Indian state of Bihar Trajjding Kumar said that rescue operations have more than 5,000 emergency workers, including 2,000 soldiers.
“About 1,300 shelters were opened to accommodate the affected people,” added Kumar.
The International Committee of the red cross described the floods humanitarian crisis and expressed the need for urgent action.
“Millions of people in Nepal, Bangladesh and India face serious shortage of food and diseases caused by contaminated flood waters,” said Martin Faller, Deputy regional Director of the Asia-Pacific region, the International Federation of red cross and red Crescent societies.
