Ukraine will expand cooperation in the field of Antarctic research

Ukraine will start to operate in the field of Antarctic studies with China and Malaysia and will also expand cooperation with Turkey.

About it reported in a press-service of the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine.

The agreement was reached during the 40th Consultative meeting on the Antarctic Treaty, which ended on June 1st in Beijing.

“During bilateral meetings with the delegations of China and Malaysia, we have agreed to hold talks on cooperation and sign MOUs on scientific and technical cooperation in the field of Antarctic research. With Turkey, this MOU has already been signed, so with its representatives, we discussed directions for future cooperation”, – said the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Director of Department scientifically-technical development of the Ministry of education Dmitry Cheberkus.

According to him, China it is important for Ukraine the implementation of joint scientific research, exchange of scientists in the stations, cooperation in the field of logistics.

In addition, Ukraine intends to participate in the intersessional contact group to discuss the challenges of Antarctic science. Establish an appropriate body suggested Australia, which will chair the group. During the Consultative workshop, the participants also elected the new Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Antarctic Treaty, which became the candidate of the Uruguay albert Lluberas. He will head the Secretariat for 5 years.
