Sociologists are sounding the alarm.
Ukraine is among the ten countries with the highest rates of population decline (of more than 15% until 2050). The consequences of such intense population decline go far beyond the narrow physical basis of the formation of human potential. About this in his article writes Lydia Tkachenko, candidate of Economics, leading researcher of the Institute of demography and social studies named after mV ptukha NAS Ukraine.
So, if you focus on the legally designated working age (16-59 years), the share of this age group decreased from a maximum of 64.4% in 2008-2009 to 61.3%. If to take into account the realities of the labour market, adequate lower bound and trueactive adult age should be considered as 20 years as in older age the level of economic activity is close to zero. The proportion of the population between 20 and 59 years reached a high of 59.0 per cent in 2011, but has now fallen to 57.6%.
“The reduction of the working age population as the driving force, and the rapid pace of aging, extremely exacerbate all the traditional challenges associated with aging. Obviously, to overcome these challenges in the context of macroeconomic instability, weakness of the social protection system and the open the conflict of generations, not possible”, – said the scientist.
