The ruler of the Republic refused to sign the judicial reform.
Adopted by the Polish Parliament a law on judicial reform refused to sign the President of Poland Andrzej Duda. On Tuesday, July 18, Duda said that he would not sign the adopted law in its current form and intends to send it back for revision.
This decision was unexpected, since the President usually supported the policies of the ruling party “law and justice”.
According to Duda, you first have to raise in Parliament required for the approval of members of the National judicial Council the number of votes to three-fifths. This body would elect judges of the constitutional court of the country. The Polish President noted that the need to reform in the justice sector in the country, however, this should be done “reasonably”.
Last week, the Polish Senate after the lower house of Parliament – the Sejm – has voted amendments to the law on the National judicial Council and court structure. During the voting on July 15, for the reform of voted 57 senators of 29 voted against it.
However, the law came into force, it must still be signed by President Andrzej Duda.
