In General, corruption is widespread in all regions of Ukraine except the Western part.
The IMF said that corruption in Ukraine is widespread in all regions, particularly in Kyiv, and the lowest level – on the West of the country.
This is stated in the study on the website of the Foundation representative office in Ukraine.
“Corruption is widespread in most parts of the country, especially the difficult situation in Kiev. But, as it turned out, the company located in the West, are dealing with lower levels of corruption,” the IMF said.
It is noted that high levels of corruption can undermine the prospects for economic growth, creates, among other things, obstacles to private investment.
“Reducing corruption is critical for accelerating the process of economic convergence with other European countries”, – emphasized in the IMF.
The Fund concluded that one of the main problems in Ukraine is “the concentration of political and economic power in a small group of individuals, which may hinder the implementation of effective measures to combat corruption.”
