Legendary pictures in the history of photography.
When we think of the old photos, we first imagine a black-and-white pictures, however, as prove these stunning photos of the early 20th century, colour photography was much more advanced than you think.
Until 1907, if you wanted to get a color photo, professional colorist had to paint it using different colors and pigments.
However, the two brothers of the French Auguste and Louis Lumiere made a splash in the photos. Using dyed particles of potato starch and a light-sensitive emulsion, they are able to do color photos without the need for additional staining.
Despite the complexity of production and high cost, the process of making color photos were very popular among photographers, and one of the first books on color photography was published using this technology.
Thus, the brothers revolutionized the world of photography, Kodak later moved the photo to a completely new level, by entering the market in 1935, the film Kodakchrome. It was easier and more convenient alternative to the invention of the Lumiere brothers. Their Autochrome Lumiere technology immediately obsolete, but still remained popular in France until 1950-ies.
Kodakchrome in turn also outdated after the appearance of digital photos. Kodak stopped producing film in 2009. Today, digital photography is the most popular way of shooting, but the modern achievements in the field of photography would not be possible without the hard work of the pioneers of this business of Auguste and Louis Lumiere.
