Fashion on Smoking of opium came to North America with the large influx of Chinese workers in the 1840s and 1850s.
Many of them have built homes and businesses in the Chinese quarters of San Francisco and new York, where those wishing to smoke was more than enough.
This pernicious habit is addicted and a lot of Americans.
In this rare footage you can see how Chinese immigrants and wealthy socialite lay in an opium daze on the inside of some of the hundreds of drug houses, which emerged in different U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Denver and new York, in the 19th century.
