The plaintiffs believe that foreign investment in business trump contrary to the Constitution of the country.
The prosecutors General of the U.S. state of Maryland and the district of Columbia intend on Monday to file a lawsuit against President Donald trump, accusing him of violating anti-corruption laws.
“The plaintiffs believe that foreign investment in business trump contrary to the Constitution of the country. This is the first such action on the part of government officials and the first action based on the decision of the trump to retain the rights of ownership of the business after winning the presidential elections”, – noted in the publication.
In January, trump said that his business assets will be managed by his sons, in order to avoid possible conflict of interest. But the attorney General of the district of Columbia, Karl Racine and the attorney General of Maryland Brian Frosch believe that trump has broken his promise to stay out of private business.
So, his son Eric trump said that the President continues to receive regular information about the financial condition of the company.
The publication notes that Racine and Frosch told about the lawsuit edition of the Washington Post Sunday, adding that if the Federal judge decides to proceed, they will require trump to provide the court with copies of his personal tax returns to assess the scale of its foreign trade.
According to the Prosecutor General, the case is likely to be in the Supreme court.
Racine and Frosch referred to those articles of the U.S. Constitution, known as the “provisions on remuneration”. These provisions prohibit government officials to receive gifts or other bonuses from foreign governments.
