Lithuania called NPP in Belarus is a threat to national security

The Cabinet of Ministers of Lithuania decided that the construction of about 50 kilometers from Vilnius (Belarusian Ostrovets) the Belarusian nuclear power plant (Belarusian NPP) is a threat to national security.

According to the Lithuanian government, the Belarusian NPP is violating national interests and security of all the criteria: geographic location and suitability of the selected site, technology features, nuclear safety, compliance with international safety requirements and environmental protection, intergovernmental cooperation.

“Made in the assessment reads that Belarus did not submit evidence that the site selection for nuclear power plants, which is just 40 kilometers from Vilnius, was duly taken into account Lithuania’s population, its distribution and other factors that are relevant in the case of a nuclear or radiological accident at the Belarusian NPP,” – said in the message.

We will remind, the Russian Corporation Rosatom is building the NPP in 50 km from Vilnius. The Lithuanian side has repeatedly stated that work is carried out with violations of safety standards and environmental protection. Minsk denies these claims.
