The purpose of the exercise is to practice the skills of combat operations on the level of battalions and brigades.
The exercise involved more than 1.2 thousand servicemen from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, USA, Canada, Germany, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Sweden and the UK.
These annual maneuvers are held on a military base in Adazi and the surrounding areas and will run until April 30. The purpose of the exercise is to practice the skills of combat operations on the level of battalions and brigades.
“This year, during the exercises will be practiced in a wide range of combat support and artillery support, air defense, reconnaissance, protection against weapons of mass destruction, anti-tank and engineering capabilities. Your skills will also improve the joint forward observers fire support and air support controllers, and medical company and the division of transportation,” – said the defense Ministry.
Summer Shield exercises held in Latvia since 2004, and initially their main task was the preparation of units for participation in operations in Iraq. In 2014, these maneuvers were included in the training plan, NATO, and open to the participation of any country of the Alliance. Last year the exercise was attended by more than 1.3 thousand servicemen from Latvia, Lithuania, USA, Canada, Finland and Germany.
Earlier it was reported that NATO and Russia simultaneously conducted military exercises in the Balkans.
