People will amend the register, if convicted of offences related to alcohol
The Northern territory government of Australia intends to restore the registry of problematic users of alcohol and terminate the sale of alcoholic beverages.
This statement was made by the Minister of health of the Northern territory Natasha Fils.
According to her, alcohol abuse has a huge impact on society. This effect is seen on the streets, in hospitals, in the justice system.
The reinstatement of a register of persons having problems with alcohol, due to the electoral program of the Minister, which is aimed at increasing the security of citizens.
Fils noted that the registry will start working from Friday, so all buyers of alcohol will need to show ID.
Initially, the registry included 1000 names, but this figure will rise to approximately 500 people per month.
It is noted that people will make to the registry, if convicted of offences related to alcohol, such as driving while intoxicated and domestic violence committed under the influence of alcohol.
The police Association of the Northern territory welcomes the return of the registry after its cancellation by the previous government in 2012.
In turn, the organization’s President Paul McKay stated that other measures are needed to overcome the devastating effects of alcohol.
“The registry should not be viewed as a panacea, but rather, this has to be one of several initiatives aimed at overcoming harm in our society,” he said.
