Mechanisms are needed to deter Russian aggression.
Canada and its NATO partners are willing to dialogue with the Kremlin, but subject to the availability of effective mechanisms to deter a possible aggression of Moscow. This was stated by the Minister of defense of Canada harjit Sajjan at the close of the NATO summit.
“We in NATO want to make sure that can send a very clear signal of deterrence and our willingness to act, especially by placing combat battalions. At the same time we would like to have a better dialogue with Russia,” said Sajjan.
He also hopes that negotiations with Russia will improve mainly through diplomatic negotiations.
“As far as I know, in Brussels was held the meeting of the NATO-Russia. I hope this dialogue will continue and we can start to move towards de – escalation,” said Sajan.
