At the meeting, dedicated to the reform of the United Nations, 128 States have signed a Declaration in support of the reform of the organization.
The meeting convened at the request of the us authorities. It was attended by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
Reform is necessary primarily in order that the UN could help to fulfill its mission to help those suffering because of conflicts, cannot get out of poverty and whose rights are violated.
“People live in poverty and isolation, victims of conflict, they are denied the rights and trample on their dignity, our help is needed by those who aspire to turn their dreams and ideas,” said UN Secretary-General.
Guterres assured that the reform in the field of management the UN will focus on the simplification of procedures and decentralization of the decision-making process.
We are reforming the whole system of peace and security in order to strengthen our ability to prevent conflicts, actively carry out mediation activities and to improve the efficiency and profitability of peacekeeping operations, – said Guterres.
The list of reforms is to increase transparency, efficiency and accountability. Among the personnel changes – the achievement of gender balance.
