The statement was made during a meeting of defense Ministers of NATO countries in Brussels.
The Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis said that if Russia will continue to act contrary to international law – the United States and NATO must defend itself.
Pentagon chief James Mattis believes that in today’s talks with Moscow, nothing has changed, so this dialog need to change something. The Minister of defense expressed the opinion that the Alliance to deal with Russia “from a position of strength”.
Despite the fact that the United States and the Alliance seek the possibility of cooperation with Russia, we, at the same time, obliged to defend themselves if Russia decides to act contrary to international law,
said Mattis.
He also added that the US and NATO is ready to cooperate with Russia in the future, but only on the condition that Moscow will meet the expectations of Washington.
