This is a special area.
The Xinjiang region in Northwest China, historic crossroads, bordering Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia and Tajikistan. In the ancient times the region was part of the silk road.

18. Mosque in Turpan, Xinjiang. Turpan is a unique city. It is located in the Turpan basin at the depth of 154 m below sea level. From all sides the city is surrounded by deserts and mountains, destroyed medieval towns and ruins of ancient settlements. The area in which the city is located, called Valley of the winds: the pressure inside the cavities is dramatically different from the pressure outside of it, and the fast flow of air creates the strongest vortices.
