Director General “Shakhtar” Sergei Palkin has introduced a new version of the format of the championship of Ukraine on football.
With the current season in the format of the Ukrainian Premier League there have been significant changes – instead of the 14 clubs in the top division started on the 12th, and at the end of the traditional two-round tournament, the participants of the national championship will be divided into two sixes. The first group will lead the fight for the championship and places in European competition, and the second will determine the main loser of the season.
Shakhtar proposes to amend the regulations and improve the current format of the championship of Ukraine, which should reduce the number of matches with no intrigue and to create an additional degree of control on all fronts of the standings.
“We want to try to change the rules and the next season to try to make a hybrid between the format of the tournament, which is held in Belgium and what we have today.
To each of the stages present audience interest and intrigue, we want to propose to keep the format in two stages. But the 12th team is eliminated after two stages. The clubs finishing 11th and 10th place, will play butt matches with commands of the first League, which is, respectively, 2-nd and 3-th place. Then the team that takes first place from second six will also play the play-offs with a team that participates in competitions.
Thus, until the end of the tournament we will have saved the intrigue and these play-offs, I think, will be rated and the number of fans in the stands no worse than the Derby between Shakhtar and Dynamo. I believe that we should move in this direction.
