Saakashvili is not worth international attention, the President said.
The situation with the ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili is not worth international attention. This was stated by the President Petro Poroshenko during a working visit to Lithuania.
“Generally, if we assess the situation with Saakashvili – it is not worth international attention. Because there are specific crimes that have been implemented, and we must ensure that: first, the transparency of the investigation, the second is the absolute openness, the impartiality of the investigating authorities. Transparent, effective, impartial court. This is what we must ensure, as an independent state”, – said Poroshenko.
The President also noted that if someone breaks the law, he should suffer punishment for it.
“If someone is accused — escapes from custody, or violates the law, or illegally crosses the border – it should be a responsibility, but it should not be linked to any political activity of this or that person”, – said Poroshenko.
