Warm water near the capital of the United Arab Emirates became home to the world’s largest studied population of Indian humpback dolphins.
The study by the Agency for the protection of the environment Abu Dhabi (EAD) in collaboration with the Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute (BDRI) off the coast of Abu Dhabi, was discovered a record of the studied populations of Indian humpback dolphins.

Representatives of humpback dolphins have a particular hump, elongated dorsal fin and small pectoral fins. They grow to about 2.5 metres and can weigh 100 to 139 pounds. This species occurs exclusively in coastal waters of the Indian ocean at a depth less than 25 m. According to Bruno díaz lópez, Director of the BDRI, which was a co-author of the research, these dolphins are still poorly understood.
“This is the first time we have estimates of population size and is the largest study on this,” he said. Scientists have observed the 54-bedroom independent Dolphin groups numbering from one to 24 individuals. The majority of groups consisted of less than 10 dolphins. According to the statistical findings, in Abu Dhabi there are 701 the representative of the Indian humpback Dolphin. Observations also found clear evidence of threats to animals caused by human activities.
