The term “blue hole” is a common name for the karst cavities are filled with water and is below sea level.
About Australia’s Great Barrier reef have discovered an underwater funnel, which refers to the so-called “blue holes”.
It is interesting that a marine biologist johnny Gaskell, who discovered the cave first saw this blue hole on Google Maps.
“My team and I checked her, though it is located farther than our usual routes. What we found inside was hard to believe, considering that five months ago on this place was the cyclone,” Gaskell told reporters.
Gaskell is confident that he and his colleagues were the first people who dived in this cave. The scientists also decided not to publish the exact coordinates of the new blue hole to protect it from tourists.
“At a depth of 15 to 20 meters there was a huge corals Seriatopora and Acropora corals elongated. Both types of coral have created the largest colonies I have ever seen. Our hole is not as deep as the famous Great blue hole in Belize, but it really is a unique place,” said Gaskell.
