There is a threat of destruction of the main building of Khan’s Palace.
The Ministry of culture of Ukraine expresses its strong protest actions of the occupation authorities of the Crimea for the implementation of the illegal work on the territory of the Bakhchisaray reserve.
About it reports a press-service of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“The Ministry of culture of Ukraine is extremely outraged by the conduct of large-scale illegal works on the national monument of the Khan’s Palace (security No. 285), which belongs to the Historical environment of the capital of the Crimean khans in Bakhchisaray and included in the tentative list of UNESCO world heritage in 2013”, – stated in the message.
In the course of removing all tiles and old oak beams in the great Khan mosque (Bink Khan Jami) was damaged painting of the 18th century. Also on the facade there were cracks and the plaster had fallen down due to the use of washing equipment that use for cleaning water jet under high pressure.
This is the same technique used for the washing of the Fountain of tears (Alexander fountain) and Kataranovski miles, which these monuments were also damaged.
All work is carried out by workers who have no experience in the field of restoration, there is a threat of destruction of the main building of Khan’s Palace.
“Works on the national monument of the Khan’s Palace is the undisputed evidence of gross violations of international law by Russia that poses a direct threat to preservation of the cultural heritage of Ukraine”, – stated in the Ministry of culture.
Given this, the Ministry has turned to the United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization (UNESCO) and the International centre for the study of conservation and restoration of cultural property (ICCROM) to once again appeal to Russia with a request to refrain from illegal actions which cause or may cause harm to the cultural heritage of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
